St Francis of Assisi made a prophecy about our times and a “destroyer” for a non-canonically elected pope. This comes from the book Works of the Seraphic Father St. Francis Of Assisi [London: R. Washbourne, 1882], pp. 248-250. You can get this from Google Books here and verify it. We have added some paragraph markers for ease of reading and added the bold and italic highlights, along with the explanatory references.
XIII.
The Saint Prophesies great Schisms and Tribulations in the Church.
A SHORT time before the holy Father’s [St. Francis] death, he called together his Children and warned them of the coming troubles, saying : ‘ Act bravely, my Brethren ; take courage, and trust in the Lord. The time is fast approaching in which there will be great trials and afflictions ; perplexities and dissensions, both spiritual and temporal, will abound ; the charity of many will grow cold, and the malice of the wicked will increase.
The devils will have unusual power (1), the immaculate purity of our Order, and of others, will be so much obscured that there will be very few Christians who will obey the true Sovereign Pontiff and the Roman Church with loyal hearts and perfect charity.
At the time of this tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavour to draw many into error and death (2). Then scandals will be multiplied, our Order will be divided, and many others will be entirely destroyed, because they will consent to error instead of opposing it (3). There will be such diversity of opinions and schisms among the people, the religious and the clergy, that, except those days were shortened, according to the words of the Gospel, even the elect would be led into error, were they not specially guided, amid such great confusion, by the immense mercy of God. Then our Rule and manner of life will be violently opposed by some, and terrible trials will come upon us. Those who are found faithful will receive the crown of life ; but woe to those who, trusting solely in their Order, shall fall into tepidity, for they will not be able to support the temptations permitted for the proving of the elect.
Those who preserve their fervour and adhere to virtue with love and zeal for the truth, will suffer injuries and persecutions as rebels and schismatics (4) ; for their persecutors, urged on by the evil spirits, will say they are rendering a great service to God by destroying such pestilent men from the face of the earth. But the Lord will be the refuge of the afflicted, and will save all who trust in Him. And in order to be like their Head, these, the elect, will act with confidence, and by their death will purchase for themselves eternal life ; choosing to obey God rather than man, they will fear nothing, and they will prefer to perish rather than consent to falsehood and perfidy.
Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it under foot and deny it (5).
Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it (6), for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor, but a destroyer. (7)
This Prophecy is for Now
(1) Notice that the devils will have great power. This matches exactly with the visions of Pope Leo XIII on October 13, 1884 (33 years before the Fatima miracle and centuries after St. Francis’ prophecy) which led to the creation of the St. Michael prayer. The words which Pope Leo XIII heard Jesus tell the devil include “You have the time: 75 to 100 years, and greater power over those who will give themselves over to your service.”
(2) A non-canonically elected “pope”. The Sankt Gallen Mafia, as it was called by its own member Cardinal Godfried Danneels (in his biography), canvassed cardinals in violation of St. John Paul II’s Universi Dominici Gregoris about the papal election process. Julia Meloni details much about that mafia in her book The St. Gallen Mafia: Exposing the Secret Reformist Group Within the Church (you can buy that here).
In addition, “Uncle Ted,” formerly Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, also talked about this during his speech at Villanova University in 2013, mentioning a “influential Italian gentleman” asking about Bergoglio being electable. See the short video here.
Here are some key sections of Universi Dominici Gregoris, with emphasis added by us.
“76. Should the election take place in a way other than that prescribed in the present Constitution, or should the conditions laid down here not be observed, the election is for this very reason null and void, without any need for a declaration on the matter; consequently, it confers no right on the one elected.”
“81. The Cardinal electors shall further abstain from any form of pact, agreement, promise or other commitment of any kind which could oblige them to give or deny their vote to a person or persons. If this were in fact done, even under oath, I decree that such a commitment shall be null and void and that no one shall be bound to observe it; and I hereby impose the penalty of excommunication latae sententiae upon those who violate this prohibition. It is not my intention however to forbid, during the period in which the See is vacant, the exchange of views concerning the election.”
(3) As to faithless religious Orders, think of the Jesuits as one of the worst, and “nuns on the bus”. Those modernist Orders are all dying off without vocations, while the traditional Orders are bursting at the seams with vocations.
(4) Even today, especially the Francis sycophants, claim that anyone who questions Francis is a schismatic. Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano has been “excommunicated” (July 2024) for claiming that Francis is not a valid pope. See the Vatican News release here.
(5) All the modernists in high levels in the Church trample the truth by promoting their favourite heresies, such as acceptance of LGBT acts, Holy Communion for adulterers, and women deacons and priests. The Synod of Synodality leadership illustrates this in a major way. Some well-quoted prelates include Cardinal Walter Kasper, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, Cardinal Robert McElroy, Cardinal Blase Cupich, and Cardinal Mario Grech.
The fewer faithful prelates are mostly silent. A small minority do speak up, such as Bishop Joseph Strickland, formerly of Tyler, Texas, USA, and Bishop Athanasius Schneider, Auxiliary Bishop in Kazakhstan. However, these bishops do still accept Francis as a Pope, even in the case of Bishop Schneider admitting that Francis has “contradicted the entire Gospel“. They are silent about that truth.
(6) The Sanctity of Life is totally rejected by the Western World governments, as evidenced by the laws, and of course by the Marxists ones. Even within the Church, it is generally downplayed to being pushed as no different than the issue of illegal immigration, the seamless garment blather originally promoted by Cardinal Bernadin of Chicago, where many promote the new idea expand pro-life to include immigration and people with disabilities. And Francis not only allows but highlights pro-abortion politicians, like Nancy Pelosi, to very publicly receive Holy Communion, right after her bishop, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, said that she may not receive Holy Communion. Francis also praises and visits an infamous Italian abortion promoter Emma Bonino, signaliing his support of it through photo ops. For the moment, the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) has maintained that abortion is a preeminent issue. While the modernist Church leaders, including Francis, do not outright claim that abortion is acceptable (that would be just too obvious), they practically downplay and minimise the attention paid to it, while trying to dilute the focus by tossing in things like illegal immigration.
(7) Any Catholic who knows his faith will see the errors, outright heresies, and confusion sowed by Francis. As personnel is policy, you can see the evil doers all being appointed to key positions, like Tucho Fernandez. All the highest and most influential Cardinals are all promoting modernism, that is to change all the teachings of the Church, especially the one regarding sexual morality.
Bottom line: St. Francis prophecy well describes the situation that we are in having Jorge Bergoglio as a purported pope.
